Privacy Policy
Last updated 14 August 2026.
This Privacy Policy explains what information Cal Pal collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. Cal Pal is run by Jill Priya Keshyap ("we", "us"). It applies to the Cal Pal mobile app and the trycalpal.com website (together, the "Service"). We keep this simple, because your data should be easy to understand.
1. Information we collect
- Account information: if you sign in, we collect the identifier you use, such as an email address or the details returned by Sign in with Apple.
- Photos you scan: when you point your camera at ingredients, the app processes the image to suggest recipes. Photos are used to give you results and are not sold.
- Nutrition and goals: information you enter, such as calorie targets, macros, saved meals, and dietary preferences.
- Usage and device data: basic information about how you use the app and the device it runs on, used to keep the app working and to improve it.
- Waitlist email: if you join the waitlist on our website, we collect the email address you submit so we can tell you when the app is available.
2. How we use your information
- To provide the core features, such as turning an ingredient photo into recipe matches and tracking your calories and macros.
- To manage your account and your subscription.
- To improve, fix, and secure the Service.
- To contact you about the Service, including launch and account messages, and waitlist updates you asked for.
3. Camera access
Cal Pal asks for camera access so you can scan ingredients. The camera is only used when you choose to scan. You can turn camera access off at any time in your device Settings, though scanning will not work without it.
4. How your information is shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these limited cases:
- Service providers who help us run the Service, such as hosting, analytics, and email delivery, and who are only allowed to use the data to provide their service to us.
- Apple, which handles your purchases and subscriptions through the App Store.
- Legal reasons, if we are required to by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the Service.
5. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account or ask us to, we will delete or anonymise your personal information within a reasonable time, unless we are required to keep it by law.
6. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, and to object to certain uses. To make a request, contact us using the details below. You can also manage app permissions in your device Settings and unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the link in the email.
7. Children
Cal Pal is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security, but we work to keep your data safe.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, let you know in the app.
10. Contact us
If you have questions about this policy or your data, contact us at jill.keshyap@gmail.com or through our support page.
